Michael Joubert was the CEO of a group of companies on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange during 1970s-1980s.[1] The Jouberts were often linked in society pages with the C.E.O of Allied Electronics, Bill Venter. Joubert's daughter is actress/model/singer, Venetia Joubert.
The Jouberts gained public notoriety when Michael Joubert, as a romantic gesture, bought his wife one thousand long stemmed roses after the birth of their third son, Adam and the story became front page news. [2] The Jouberts involuntarily gained further publicity by serving gold dust soup at a dinner party, even though the soup cost only one dollar per person.[3] By this time Mr. Joubert’s main company 'Zozo' had become a generic name in South Africa and the phrase zozo huts had become integrated into the South African language system.
Joubert immigrated to Canada from South Africa with his family in 1989. The company Zozo no longer exists. Michael Joubert died of a stroke in 2003.[4]
